Do you have too much hair?

Thinking about cutting off all of your hair?  Why not donate it?  I recently cut 12 inches off a clients hair so she could donate it to an organization that makes wigs for cancer patients.  This gorgeous head of hair belongs to the wonderful Alli.  Alli had been growing her hair out for quite awhile so that she could do this.  Thank you Alli!

Unfortunately, I am familiar with the other side of this experience as well.  I had a client in San Diego that had to go through chemotherapy twice while I was doing her hair.  I am happy to say that she is doing very well now!  However, the process of growing hair back out after treatment can take a long time and often, the new hair is very different than before. It is a very hard thing for a woman to lose her hair and the wigs can help them feel like themselves both during and after.

The first step is to section off the hair that you will cut.  Because Alli's hair was so thick, we made multiple ponytails.  After the hair is cut we put it in a ziplock bag to send.  Most organizations require at least 10-12 inches of natural (not bleached) hair.  All over color is generally okay.  Guys, you can do this too!  My brother grew his hair out in high school and donated it.  Your hair doesn't have to be this long if you are willing to go really short when you cut it.

After losing all the length, she looks like a whole new person!  We cut Alli's hair into a bob that hit just above the shoulders and was slightly angled towards the front.

I've done this quite a few times for people and yes, sometimes there are a few tears.  Not with Alli though, she had been waiting to do this for a long time!  This is such a wonderful thing to do and hair is needed all the time.  If you are interested in donating:

Sadly, most of us have a connection in some way to someone who has battled or is battling cancer.  This is one small thing you can do to help that has a huge impact.  Don't have the patience or perhaps the hair to grow out?  Another passion of mine is running so, do a run that uses your entry fee or fundraising for cancer research!  Here are a few ideas :)  Maybe I will see you out there!
