Shine!

What hair is always in style?  Shiny, healthy hair!

Dark hair will always look shiniest naturally.  So, if you are a blond, ask your stylist to put a glaze or clear color gloss on your hair to add shine.  We offer a "diamond haircut" at The Beach House Salon that includes a shine treatment with your haircut.  You can buy the glaze for a take-home treatment as well.

Also, using a flat iron to smooth the hair will help.  Be sure to use a heat protectant spray before using any tools that involve heat .  Many of the KEVIN MURPHY styling products have heat a protectant already in it.  A few of AVEDA's newest products now offer heat protectant as well.  AVEDA Damage Control is my favorite.  All you do is spray it in when your hair is wet and then blow dry and style as usual.  I use it everyday and it definitely makes a difference.

A fresh cut and color always helps hair to look healthy.
It is spring now, which means the sun is shining!  Don't you want your hair to shine in that sun??!!  Get a new spring look today!

What to do with those bangs

Bangs not quite long enough to wear straight forward anymore?  Need a trim but haven't been able to get in to see your stylist?

Here are a few ways I wear my bangs when they are growing out or just not cooperating.

One way is to blow dry them like you are going to wear them forward as usual. (see picture above) Because you blowdried them they will lay nice and flat.  Then, brush them to either side for a side-swept look.  You can use a flat iron to help them go the right direction.  You will definitely need some hairspray to keep them out of your eyes.

Try pulling the whole bang section straight back into a little mini "bump-it"  :)  Part your hair at about the middle or end of where your eyebrow is on each side and that is usually a good size section.  The shape of the section should be sort of triangular.

To get the bangs to look a little puffed up at the front, don't pull the hair too tight.  Cross the bobby pins over each other to secure.

The next two ideas look a little bit similar.  One is just a twist and the other is a braid.
This is really easy to do.  Just twist the entire bang section of hair back away from your face.

For the braid, clip a section off in the front and then pull the rest of your hair out of the way.  Do a french braid using the hair that you clipped off in the front.  If you don't know how to french braid, it is just like a regular braid but you add in a little more hair every time you cross a section of hair over.
I always hide the bobby pins underneath the hair that is left down.

And lastly, a headband!  This is the easiest.  Just pull everything straight back and put on a headband.

You can wear your hair up or down.  Have fun with the headband too, there are a lot of choices out there.

Most stylists give complimentary bang trims between appointments, so you can always book a quick 10 minute trip to the salon.  Teresa, I would love if you could fly to see me, but I know that it's not possible.  So, this was for you. :)

Friday Night Hair

So a few months ago we had a little snow storm.  That meant a lot of time indoors.  Unfortunately that meant I watched a little too much TV.  So began my latest obsession: Friday Night Lights.  They have all the seasons on Netflix!  If you have not seen it yet, don't start, unless you want to get completely sucked in.
Well, not only is the show addicting, there is some really good hair!  I know my hair never looked this good in high school.

I love Connie Britton's hair color with just the few highlights around her face.  This works great with any level of hair color.  Just ask for highlights that are a few shades lighter than the rest of your hair, that way they will blend and not look stripey.

This short haircut is so cute.  Love it with the two different colors too.  This cut looks great on oval-shaped faces.  If you have more of a heart-shaped face, try it with some side-swept bangs.

This is a really nice natural looking blond.  Bangs are a great way to add some interest to really long hair.

Minka Kelly's hair always seems impossibly shiny.  That is the nice thing about dark hair, it reflects light differently and looks super shiny.  Ask for a gloss or shine treatment next time you are at the salon to give you some extra shine!

Thank you, Friday Night Lights, for some fabulous hair and 5 seasons of entertainment!

Oh, to be a client...

So, yesterday I got the pleasure of being a client!  Some stylists don't like to sit and get their hair done, I am not one of those stylists.  I have clients tell me all the time that they would love to have someone do their hair for them everyday.  Well, I would too!  :)

Taylor, my co-worker, is going to school at the Gary Manuel Aveda Institute in Seattle and she needed a model for an 80's themed hair and makeup assignment.  I'm so glad I was able to go, it was so much fun!

Taylor did some fabulous work.  She only has about 6 weeks of school left so go in and see her soon!  Cuts, colors, updos, make-up...she does it all!

What do you think, ready for a Motley Crue reunion tour?
